Baseline Testing Grant Initiative
On February 24, 2006, the Brain Injury Association of NJ announced the availability of grant funds for New Jersey high schools to implement computerized pre-season baseline and concussion management for athletes. This is the first opportunity of its kind for our state’s high school athletic departments. Already, ABC Channel 7’s Dr. Jay Adlersberg and CBS Channel 2’s Jay Dow, as well as The Record, Home News Tribune, Courier News and Asbury Park Press have reported stories on it. Simply put, baseline and post-concussion testing help take the guesswork out of concussion management and return-to-play decisions.
This fall, as student-athletes return to school and sports, 35 high schools in New Jersey will implement ImPACT, Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing, in their athletic programs, thanks to this matching grant administered by the Brain Injury Association of New Jersey.

The Brain Injury Association of New Jersey plans to award concussion baseline testing grants to a total of 100 NJ high schools. 65 slots remain available, which would allow schools to begin the ImPACT program in 2007. The next opportunity to apply for this grant will be announced soon. Until then, please feel free to peruse the contents of the grant application packet and begin compiling your application.
